I've become a big fan of Glee. I've always enjoyed the show, but it seems more and more to be coming into its own - or maybe I'm just getting used to the frenetic pace of it. Whatever the reason, I love it.
One of the songs they did has been stuck in my brain since the weekend: Kristen Chenowith's rendition of Maybe This Time, from Cabaret - a song I never used to like in the film, but that seems to have grown on me.
Check it out. Not sure how long this will be up on YouTube, so be quick about it.
Okay, it's Tuesday at 11pm, and I have a serious case of earworm. And I have no idea where it came from.
I'm convinced that there's part of my brain - locked off from the rest - that just houses melodies and lyrics. And every so often I get a jailbreak of some piece of music that's been in there for about 25 years.
Case in point - tonight's earworm is a song called I Still Believe, and I remember it from an album my sister had when I was growing up - It featured music form the TV series Fame.
I haven't heard it since I was about 10. I don't even know if she still has the LP. And yet I found myself humming it earlier today. I knew the melody, but couldn't quite place the song. But my brain kept on working on it in the background and by the time I was walking home from work, I could actually remember the bulk of the lyrics. And now I've found the song on YouTube.
Actually, It's not a bad song at all. I wonder if the rest of the album still holds up - we used to listen to that thing non-stop. I see it's available on amazon marketplace for about $5.
Today's earworm - and I have no idea why - is Beggin' by MadCon. It's a catchy song, and it's nice to hear hip hop by someone who can actually sing (or at least rap lyrically). More theft sampling of course (the song was originally done by the Four Seasons) but that seems to come with the territory when you're talking HipHop.
Hear it here:
Haven't done one of these in a while because, frankly, I've had the same songs going round my brain for a few weeks. I Gotta Feeling is just so sticky! But I didn't want to repeat, so I just avoided my EW posting.
Well, now I've got a new song in my head. Brand new. So new the album isn't even out in stores yet. It's the new track by OneRepublic called All the Right Moves. And I've been singing it all morning.
Enjoy!
What's Your Earworm?
One of the instructors at the gym played this song as she was setting up for the beginning of class. She played a remix that was really good and I'm glad I asked her what it was.
I'm not a big Lady Gaga fan - that disco-stick song is terrible. And this new song, Paparazzi, isn't really an exception. It's pretty lame in it's original radio edit. But there are two remixes that I really like. And that's what I have stuck in my head today - In particular the moto blanco remix - the one I heard at the gym:
And here's the James Camareta Mix, for good measure:
Fairly strong Earworm today: Irreplaceable by Beyoncé.
I've been really lucky all week. I've had the various parts of Donna Summer's MacArthur Park in my head, and I was hopeful that trend would continue - it's a great song. But alas, I heard irreplaceable twice on the radio in a week for some reason (it's an old song, isn't it?)and now it's lodged itself.
Oh well. I'm headed to the gym tonight and I'm sure I'll have another song going by the time I leave there.
I couldn't embed the real video, so...
I often get Broadway show tunes stuck in my head - but there are a few that are particularly sticky. I Could Have Danced All Night from My Fair Lady, and Shall we Dance from the King and I are two that I often find on my mind.
Today's Earworm is another in this series of extra-sticky show tunes, and it also comes from My Fair Lady: The Street Where you Live.
And now, because of the meme I just filled out, I have Sir Elton's "Heartache All Over the World" stuck in my head. Problem is I don't really know much of that song, so I have the same bit going on over and over.
This one's going around on Facebook and thought it was kind of fun. I thought picking an artist as prolific as EJ would make it easier, but it's still a tough challenge. Here are the rules:
Using only song names from ONE ARTIST, cleverly answer these questions. Pass it on to 15 people you like and include me (presuming I'm someone you like). You can't use the band I used. Try not to repeat a song title. It's a lot harder than you think! Repost as "My life according to (band name)"

I've been biking to work this week so I can get home quickly. So I can get to my Mom's place. So I can visit my vacationing family and play with my nephews. Consequently, I haven't been using my iPod, which leaves my brain free to find a piece of music on its own, without a tune being imposed by technology.
And what did my brain come up with? Some african tribal music? A great choral work by JS Bach? No. Another pop song trumps all that, apparently. Today I find myself singing Don't Call me Baby by Kreesha Turner.
Le sigh.
